BPCA National Specialty Oct 2020

Hello Everyone,

The following information pertaining to the 2020 Berger Picard Club of America National is now available. Please check back from time to time as additional information will be added.

Date: Sunday October 4, 2020
Berger Picard Club Of America (BPCA)
National Show Site and Host Hotel:
Best Western Plus Bensalem, Pennsylvania
3499 Street Road Bensalem, PA 19020
Phone: 215-638-1500

When calling the hotel ask for the block of rooms for Berger Picard Club. You may need to spell the name of the club. They will probably pronounce it “burger.” Our room block is for October 2-5, 2020 (departing on the 5th).

For those of you that may want to extend the time/dates and make that your base hotel for all the shows that week, talk to the hotel they may be able to work with you. Our room block closes on August 20, 2020. The rooms are $91.00 a night plus tax. The judge for this year’s National is Mrs. Terry M. DePietro. The judge for the sweepstakes is Ms. Leigh Ann Yandle.

For those of you that are interested and want to do some performance activities with your dogs we are presently looking at other shows in the area during the same time frame. It presently looks like there’s a possibility of doing some Fast Cat, obedience and agility at some of the other shows. There’s also a possibility of ATT testing. We are trying to find a herding facility close by that may be doing something during the same time frame. Although the BPCA cannot sponsor/pay to hold each of these events for this year we would like to and be willing to provide rosettes for the highest scoring Berger Picard at each one of these potential events (Fast Cat, Agility and Obedience).

Within the next few weeks my co-chair, Diane Cocos, and I will be emailing or calling the people that sponsored specific trophies for last year‘s National to see if they want to sponsor those trophies again this year. We will then post a list of trophies that still need sponsors including people who want to donate towards the rosettes for performance activities.

This is going to be a very expensive National this year due to some of the things that were requested by the membership such as an indoor facility, with close proximity to the other shows being held that week. So, if anyone would like to donate some extra money towards the National it would be greatly appreciated. It could be done either through PayPal or a check sent to the Club Treasure, Janice Billingsley, at 7413 Columbus Dr., Amarillo, TX 79118. If you want to send money for the National please indicate that it is for the National.

We are also trying to come up with some additional fundraisers to help cover the cost. This information will be posted at a later time. We are hoping to be able to do “Decorate a Berger Picard” again this year so they can be auctioned off at the judge’s dinner that Sunday night. More information will be posted at a later time pertaining to the details of the judge’s dinner.

Jim Rau Dog Shows will be our show superintendent this year. Contracts are being finished and signed. We will post a message as soon as our National is listed on the Rau and Info Dog websites. This year all entries will either have to be completed online or mailed to the Jim Rau Dog Show address. For those of you that are interested the four local shows that precede our National are as follows:

  • 1. 09/30/20 Hatboro Dog Club, Inc. at Wrightstown, PA
  • 2. 10/01/20 Morris and Essex Kennel Club at Somerset, NJ
  • 3. 10/02/20 Hatboro Dog Club, Inc. at Wrightstown, PA
  • 4. 10/03/20 Devon Dog Association, Inc. at Ludwig’s Corner, PA

A local member is presently working on a planner list which contains names, addresses, and phone numbers of other hotels in the general vicinity of where the National is being held. Also included will be a list of local restaurants. We are also trying to locate the closest RV park and servicing facility.
